12. Darth Vader

I know I’ve mentioned Lords of the Sith a lot, but it is an amazing book with so much illuminating content (seriously if you haven’t read it yet you better put that on your reading list immediately) that I feel deserves some show time. What the novel does is it begins to unpack the heavy, manipulative layers of the relationship between Darth Vader and the Emperor.

I think that a show that generally delves into the emergence of the Empire and the development of the master and apprentice relationship. Without further exploration into this dynamic, I don’t think we are able to fully appreciate the Original Trilogy. The relationship is so complicated and dark and we don’t have the opportunity to see that.

We see Anakin growing in power in Return of the Jedi, but by the time we see Vader in A New Hope he is portrayed as one of the most powerful Sith of all time. His ascension to true power must have been truly phenomenal (and terrifying) to witness, but we miss that whole developmental period that takes place during the interim between films. I would love to see the inclusion of things like Vader’s forging of his lightsaber (which is covered in the Vader comics).

I think there is something lacking in our experience of Vader as the most powerful Sith, and it’s that we don’t see that rise to power in its entirety. I think that with a series covering this period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope we would allow us, the fans, to fully enjoy the Original Trilogy.
