We dissect the final Star Wars Rebels trailer, in our screencap breakdown. What moments did you miss?

Star Wars Rebels is cruising down the trench run full-throttle, as the final seven episodes are quickly approaching. The latest trailer delivered the goods, with Dave Filoni and company giving us just a taste of what’s to come.

If you are late to the party and were hanging with a wretched hive of scum and villainy in the Mos Eisley instead and missed it, check out the final trailer for Star Wars Rebels.

On the surface, the first part of the Star Wars Rebels Mid-Season trailer seems like a throwaway, repeating what we’ve already seen in Seasons 1-3. But, its meaning is much more profound and has a purpose, giving us clues on the tone for the upcoming episodes.

Ezra began as a Loth-rat, an orphan looking for a place to belong. The Force intervened, leading him to Kanan, Hera, and the rest of the Ghost crew- a Rebel cell fitting against the Empire. Not only did Kanan save Ezra, but Ezra revived and saved him, restoring Kanan’s confidence, where he finally became the Jedi he always wanted to be — a true role model for Ezra.

Now, it seems that Ezra may have to finish his Jedi steps without a teacher. He’ll have to use the teachings of Kanan as a guide and let the Force guide him. He must overcome more pain, suffering, and death, I fear.

Let’s jump right in, seeing if we can discover more intricacies of the Force, and secrets for Star Wars Rebels Season 4.

Star Wars Rebels is the journey of Ezra Bridger

"Ezra: I’ve learned so much. About life, about being a good person. If not for you guys, I’d be back on Lothal just waiting to be rescued like everyone else."

The focus is now entirely on Ezra Bridger, the main hero from the beginning of Rebels. The series is viewed through his lens, so no better way to close it out than with the story’s main protagonist. Each of these first narrations is from episodes long gone, but they hint at the clouded future if you listen carefully.

"Kanan: Ezra, you have never been like everyone else."

Ezra Bridger is unique, not only strong with the Force, but possessing the true spirit of a Jedi. Kanan’s reluctance in training Ezra was due to that very truth.

"Ezra: What exactly am I looking for?"

One of the epic moments of the series is when Kanan takes Ezra on a journey for his first kyber crystal. It’s more than just constructing a lightsaber or the next step in becoming a Jedi Knight. That crystal becomes one with its new Master — a living symbiotic bond.

"Kanan: Nothing and everything. Trust yourself. Trust the Force."

Moving forward, Ezra is going to have to trust his feelings and the Force, with this statement hinting that Kanan will be gone, unable to guide the young Jedi Padawan during the final leg of his Jedi training.

"“Ezra: I could see what they were thinking.”"

"Kanan: You must have established a deep connection with it. The Force is trying to tell you something, listen to it."

Ezra’s Force abilities are unique, with the gift of connecting to all living beings deeply. This trend will continue in the final episodes, especially with the Loth-wolves, the convor, and possibly new Star Wars creatures.

"Hera: We have hope, hope that things will get better. And they will."

From a certain point of view that statement is true, but, for the Ghost crew, things are about to get worse. Much worse.

"Ezra: Is it wrong for me to protect my friends?"

With Kanan likely gone, he will have to decide on his own how will protect his friends. Will he choose the path of the Jedi — using his power for knowledge and defense? Or, will he embrace the Dark Side — passion, aggression, and killing?

"Yoda: How Jedi choose to win, the question is."

Ironically, we next see an image of Anakin Skywalker, who we know chose the path of the Dark Side. Is this hinting that Ezra will do the same thing?

"Ezra: We are Rebels, fighting for the people. It won’t be easy. We can’t back down just because we’re afraid. That’s when we need to stand the tallest."

Things are about to get tough for the Rebels and Ghost crew, so Ezra will lead them, standing tall as their new leader, perhaps. He will have to choose between the Dark Side or the Light. No more middle ground for Ezra Bridger. Or, will he come to learn of true balance, like the Bendu?

Star Wars Rebels: The final chapter

"Governor Ryder: Your voice started something. That something has grown bigger than I ever imagined."

"Ezra: We can do this together."

Now, the new footage picks up. Are you ready?! Star Wars Rebels footage from the final seven episodes in full-effect.

"Kanan: Let’s go get Hera"

It’s no secret that the Ghost crew will rescue Hera, who survives until after the events of Return of the Jedi. But, will Kanan survive the ordeal? It’s highly unlikely, with the Jedi’s fire gone from the galaxy come the events of A New Hope.

"Hera: You’re in terrible trouble."

Kanan is not messing around or taking into consideration the safety of his enemies — as he shows in the past. He’s rescuing the love of his life, and all bets are off. Any Imperial who stand in his way will no longer be left standing. It’s go-time.

"Ezra: Hey, I’ve seen you before."

The first hint that we will indeed see Ahsoka Tano again, with the convor having significant connections to her. Going back to the day of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan journey to the world of Mortis, encountering a trio of strange Force wielders: the Father, the Son, and the Daughter. Ahsoka dies in this Force vision — which we are still unsure if it happened or not — and is revived back to life by the Daughter, who sacrifices herself doing such heroic act.

The convor bird from Star Wars Rebels symbolizes the Daughter, and now Ahsoka Tano. Ashley Eckstein also told us in our recent interview that we will see Ahsoka again — in one way or another. It’s unlikely she survived her encounter with Darth Vader so that the Force will bring her back, in some creative way.

"Hera: I have to tell you something. I hate your hair."

Kanan’s new hairstyle is reminiscent of his time as a Jedi Padawan when he was known as Caleb Dume. Is this symbolism of Kanan completing his Jedi journey, becoming one with the Force? Either way, we miss his Jedi-cowboy look and the groovy ponytail.

"Zeb: Let’s go, Rebels."

Hondo Ohnaka, the wild-card Pirate, is back. Is he finally a member of the Rebel Alliance? Also, we see Governor Ryder, Mart, and others fully immersed in the cause now. No more wavering in the middle, it’s time to choose sides — the Empire or the Rebel Alliance.

This image of Rex likely confirms that Rex is indeed the commando at the end of Return of the Jedi. This means that Rex teams up with Han Solo, Leia, and Chewbacca on the forest moon of Endor. If you look closely, his clone compadres, Gregor and Wolffe are out of retirement, joining the Rebel cause.

Star Wars Rebels: A Grand (Admiral) finale

"Thrawn: Full-scale bombardment of the city"

Grand AdmiralThrawn is no longer playing the long game, giving orders to destroy the peaceful world of Lothal. Will anyone step up and stop him? It will take a real team effort to stop the advances of the brilliant minded Chiss.

"Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine: Ezra Bridger, mine at last."

Sheev Palpatine. AKA Darth Sidious is back and as menacing as ever. Is he in the presence of Ezra or using the Force to project himself? Is Palpatine looking to turn Ezra to the Dark Side or destroy him?

Ezra meets up with the Loth-wolves once again. He seems to have a unique and essential connection to those Force-sensitive creatures.

Kanan is rescuing Hera but has to get by the Rukh first. Surely, the Noghri warrior is no match for a Jedi Knight.

Ah yes, the Father, Son, and Daughter from The Clone Wars “Mortis” arc. Ezra disguised in Stormtrooper gear is gazing into a painting or mural of the Force users. Is this of Ahsoka’s doing or the Emperors? Some crazy Force sorcery is upon us for the final few episodes, that’s for sure.

Star Wars Rebels: One last lesson

"Ezra: I know what we have to do now."

Ezra is communicating with a Hologram or could it be Ahsoka Tano’s Force ghost? Our hopes are for the latter!

"Ezra: One last lesson."

Now that the dust has settled from the Star Wars Rebels Mid-season trailer… Phew. What a wild ride that was. Imagine what the actual episodes are going to do to our fragile hearts?

More from Dork Side of the Force

So many goodies in this trailer, with the Emperor returning as the most prominent surprise. His role likely won’t come into play until the final episodes, but if he’s leaving Coruscant for any reason, then things are getting real, for sure.

Will we see Darth Vader one final time? He was absent for the trailer, but Dave Filoni and crew are no doubt saving that as a major surprise. Also, we are convinced that it was Ahoska’s Force ghost at the end of the trailer and not Darth Sidious. Ahsoka lives!

With hope as the motto of the Rebel Alliance, the Ghost crew is likely to inspire it with their final acts of courage; meaning a few if not most of them will meet the Maker. Hera and Chopper are the only two who are safe, but game-on for everyone else.
