Simon Pegg, who portrayed Unkar Plutt in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, suggested a gigantic plot twist to JJ Abrams. And he loved it!

In a recent interview with talk show host, Stephen Colbert, actor Simon Pegg revealed some interesting information about the making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

During the interview, Colbert asked Pegg if he had ever overstepped his bounds on set in suggesting changes or additions to a film he was working on. This launched Pegg into a short story about how he had suggested a significant plot twist to JJ Abrams while they were filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In an email, he suggested to AJ that since the Empire had used a homing beacon in the original films to track the Millennium Falcon to Yavin 4, it could still be located somewhere on the ship. Given this possibility, he suggested it might be a fun twist to have Unkar Plutt reactivate the beacon and track Rey, Han, and Chewie to Maz’s castle. Well, Abrams loved the idea so they actually filmed a scene following this suggested plot twist!

In the scene, Unkar Plutt shows up at Maz’s castle to confront Rey about stealing his ship! By the way, it is delightfully endearing to watch Simon Pegg get all tongue tied while talking about the fact that he got to portray a character who owns the Millennium Falcon. I can’t say I blame him. That’d rock my world too!

So, when Unkar Plutt arrives at Maz’s castle he confronts Rey and is going to shoot her when Chewie comes to the rescue and rips one of Unkar Plutt’s arms off, throwing it violently across the room! I mean…wow! Han Solo did say that Wookie’s will rip your arms off if you piss them off…here’s the proof. Don’t mess with Chewie, people!

Obviously, the scene was cut from the final cut of the film, much to the chagrin of many a fan, but worry not, as the scene is probably included in the special features of your retail copy of the film.  Simon Pegg says he doesn’t care that the scene was cut because it still happened – he got his arm ripped off by Chewbacca.
