Rumors are floating around that Billy Dee Williams could be returning as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX. Could we see the old smoothie in the concluding sequel installment?

Star Wars: Episode IX rumors

Donald Glover is making the iconic Star Wars character Lando Calrissian his own, knocking the role out of the park in Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, the old smoothie Billy Dee Williams may not be done with the character quite yet.

Don’t worry, Childish “Landino,” you don’t have to worry about Billy Dee Williams stealing the spotlight from you, where I believe that Donald Glover will direct/write his very own Lando Calrissian Star Wars movie, sooner than later.

Recent rumors surfaced that Billy Dee Williams may be gearing up for a return as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX. He still looks fantastic for turning 81 years young not many moons ago, but he’s even kicking things up a notch with his newfound workout regiment.

Our beloved Princess, may she rest in peace, sure did before reprising the role of Leia — while Mark Hamill did the same thing for Luke Skywalker. Harrison Ford kept himself in tip-top shape over the years, aging as well as Robert Redford did.

Could Billy Dee Williams be doing the same thing for Lando Calrissian, gearing up to return in Star Wars: Episode IX? For now, all we can do is speculate, but it makes perfect sense.

First off, Leia has many allies hiding in the Outer Rim, which is where Lando Calrissian set up shop on Cloud City in Bespin.

According to the recent Aftermath: Life Debt novel and the recent Star Wars Last Shot, we know that the old smoothie did, in fact, return to his mining colony on that very planet — fitting the potential plot for Star Wars: Episode IX perfectly.

Also, with the loss of Carrie Fisher, bringing back another iconic character could help fill that massive hole left by her untimely death. With Han Solo meeting his doom at the hands of his son Kylo Ren, and Luke Skywalker becoming one with the Force, having an original trilogy character as prominent as Lando Calrissian around would help soften the blow in that regard.

Plus, it would be wonderful to see the suave Billy Dee Williams reprise the role on the big screen. He even returned for a few episodes of Star Wars Rebels during a few Lando Calrissian cameo appearances and was as smooth as ever.

He Billy also brought the goods during Star Wars Celebration 2017 in Orlando, proving he could return to the rare form of the card playing Lando Calrissian.

Next: Solo wins the Falcon playing Sabacc, but what exactly is it?

Bill Dee Williams returning as Lando Calrissian would be more than fan service and would make sense for the story of Star Wars: Episode IX — which begins filming this summer and premieres December 2019, worldwide.
