In a recent interview, Colin Trevorrow talked about how grateful he was for being able to pitch a script to Lucasfilm for Star Wars: Episode IX, despite eventually leaving the project…
In recent years, there have been quite a few Star Wars projects that have hit snags. At the moment, the most talked about one is, of course, Solo: A Star Wars Story which experienced some pretty significant issues during production which led to the firing of the two original directors of the film. However, the as yet unnamed Star Wars: Episode IX also experienced some directorial difficulties.
Originally, Colin Trevorrow was on board as the director of this film. However, Trevorrow and Lucasfilm parted ways back in September 2017.
Finally, in a recent interview, Trevorrow spoke about his experience pitching his version of the Star Wars: Episode IX script to George Lucas and Mark Hamill. During the interview he stated:
"“I don’t want to talk too much about it because I don’t want to affect the way that fans get to see these films. When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they’re made, the more it reveals that they’re just movies. But they’re not just movies, they’re more than that.Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life.”"
Whether or not we would have liked his version of the film, we’ll never know, but I do have to say I appreciate his attitude toward the franchise.
Hopefully, J.J Abrams who is now at the helm of the new film will bring us a story that we can all enjoy and that will do justice to the end of an era as the newest trilogy will be exploring a completely new set of characters and a new part of the galaxy.
