Veteran actor Richard E. Grant has been cast in Star Wars Episode IX and the latest theories are he will appear as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Keep a close eye on this as this could potentially be one of those times the rumors turn out to be true. Star Wars announced the cast for episode IX over the weekend, and while the expected cast were announced and an emotional tribute to Carrie Fisher was made, a bunch of new cast members where announced, including Richard E. Grant.

The veteran actor has been around for some time and has a whole load of credits to his name. Most recently he was seen in Logan as Dr. Zander Rice, but if you looked up the list of credits to his name, it is quite literally in the hundreds.

The rumor circulating is Richard E. Grant will be coming in to play Grand Admiral Thrawn. The character has featured in both books and comics and even featured in Star Wars Rebels but has never featured in any of the movies.

That could be all about to change in Episode IX with Grant. Leaked artist concepts and a casting call have pointed to a character, codenamed Zander. The role of Zander needs to go through a massive transformation as per the casting call.

It’s not hard to connect the dots on this one. Grant played the role of Dr Zander in Logan; therefore the role that has been codenamed is Grant’s. He needs to undergo a massive transformation; therefore being turned blue is no stretch of the imagination.

Considering how much time has passed since we last saw Thrawn it would make sense he has aged as well. Furthering the idea Grant is coming in as Grand Admiral Thrawn. There is also the big clue, Grant really does looks like Thrawn when comparing the two together.

It’s only a working theory and one that may never come true. But considering how much of a major character Thrawn is, it would be amazing if it was.
