Actor Samuel L. Jackson has been a vocal supporter of bringing back Mace Windu and again suggested he survived Revenge of the Sith. Is it really possible?
Actor Samuel L. Jackson has made it clear over the years he wants to return to Star Wars. In the prequel trilogy, he famously played Mace Windu, a member of the Jedi High Council who was killed trying to arrest Chancellor Palpatine.
Or was he really killed?
Jackson believes his Star Wars character could have survived and is eager to play the part out. In a recent interview with Empire, he noted that it’s not impossible for a Jedi to fall and survive.

It seems like an incredible feat for someone to fall out of a window and not die, but he does have magical powers and this is science fiction.
Furthermore, there is precedent for the theory.
Although not a Jedi, Darth Maul was Force-sensitive as well and fell down a shaft to what many thought was his death. Not only did he fall, his body was sliced in half and he dropped down in two pieces.
If Maul can survive the fall, why can’t Windu?
There’s also the possibility that Maul never hit the ground. Could he have used the Force to levitate and thus avoid impact with the ground?
Mother Talzin used the Force to levitate in the Clone Wars television series. In the canon novel Lords of the Sith by Paul S. Kemp, Darth Vader used the Force to fly through space from one ship to another.
There is also Leia using the Force to levitate through space and avoid death in The Last Jedi.
Aside from the numerous examples of The Force being used to lift everything from small objects to X-Wing starfighters, there are some examples of the Force being used to levitate.
It’s thus not too much of a stretch to suggest Mace Windu survived his fall.
The larger problem when it comes to bringing Windu back may not be in explaining his survival, but in explaining his absence. If he did survive his fall, where has he been all these years?
If Windu went into hiding, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda famously did, where did he go and what has he done in this time?
If Windu didn’t go into hiding, why have we not heard from him at all?
This is untouched territory and likely will remain that way for some time. With the Resistance animated series and Episode IX on the way, Disney is still more focused on the post-Return of the Jedi era.
There are possibilities beyond this. Multiple film projects are possibly in development, including the spin-offs and beyond.
Could we perhaps see a Mace Windu spin-off movie? A major appearance in another movie in the future?
If Disney is looking for a way to restore interest in the spin-off films, bringing back Samuel L. Jackson is a safe bet. He’s a popular and well-respected actor. Like Maul, Windu’s story left more to be desired. He wasn’t utilized enough.
Jackson may be onto something in wanting to come back. The possibilities are there. It’s up to the powers-that-be to make this happen.
