Rey

According to Kylo Ren, Rey is a nobody. She was allegedly born to two nobody drunkards who sold their daughter and left her on Jakku (with Unkar Plutt) for more drinking money.

Now, this account could have been the product of Ren engineering and delivering a manipulative story to a vulnerable Rey in an attempt to get her to continue to side with him after their epic team-up against Supreme Leader Snoke’s Elite Praetorian Guard. Kylo Ren’s efforts were much in the same vein of how Chancellor Palpatine similarly used his story of Darth Plagueis to manipulate a vulnerable Anakin Skywalker into ultimately joining the dark side as his new apprentice.

That entire sequence was a massive curveball thrown at the audience from The Last Jedi (that no one saw coming!) and we will see how it continues to unfold in Episode IX but regardless of Rey’s origin, she is phenomenal. Many fans were hoping for her to be the progeny of Luke Skywalker or even Obi-Wan Kenobi but that wasn’t the case.

Rey is a compassionate, optimistic, and fearless individual who unexpectedly discovered she was extremely gifted with the Force, able to accomplish things that should have taken her more training and a longer amount of time to accomplish (i.e. Jedi mind tricking a stormtrooper and defeating Kylo Ren in a lightsaber duel).

And now with her possession of the ancient Jedi texts, Rey’s Force knowledge could see her growth into a fervent Force wielder who is a formidable opponent of the dark side.

I can’t wait to see Daisy Ridley’s performance as Rey in Episode IX.
