3. Guillermo del Toro
Del Toro is the most recent winner of the Oscar for Best Director. He won the honor for groundbreaking and wonderfully odd film The Shape of Water.
In the past, he directed such flicks as Hellboy, Hellboy II Blade II, Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim. His experience with comic book movies and blockbuster action films gives del Toro an advantage over other directors who might take the seat. His most recent achievement gives him a lot of credibility as LucasFilm continues to pursue critically acclaimed films.
Del Toro also wrote the screenplay for several blockbusters including The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. This shows that he cannot only direct but write these types of movies.
The Oscar winner is a solid choice to direct. He would definitely understand how to utilize different creatures to give a potential film life. The majority of his films have been well received by fans and critics. The Shape of Water took home the honor as the best film of the year in March. Pan’s Labyrinth scored 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. His experience in the fantasy world also gives him a leg up on other potential directors.
