3. Voltron: Legendary Defender

After years of the villainous Galra Empire tormenting the universe, it’s up to five teenage space pilots to join together in an attempt to stop evil. Together, these pilots act as Paladins. They each operate an individual lion robot and they unite to form the robot warrior “Voltron.” Voltron is the Defender of the Universe and the only known threat to the evil Galra Empire.

For those who haven’t watched anime before, Voltron: Legendary Defender may take some getting used to. Once you’re into it though, you’ll be inseparably tied to its rabid fan base. This show is a gem on Netflix with a devoted cult of followers who will cheer for its success well after the series comes to an end next season.

Like many of the other series on this list, I’ll readily admit that it won’t feel *just* like Star Wars. Instead, with Voltron you get kind of a Power Rangers meets Transformers vibe. Still, the space elements, the battles, the good vs. evil. . . it all adds up to give you a highly entertaining show that shares some important Star Wars elements.

Don’t be turned off by the animated format if this isn’t your usual style. Voltron: Legendary Defender is good enough that many cartoon novices will forget it’s not in a live-action format. Once you get sucked in, there will be no going back. Netflix really pumped out the episodes with this series, so by the time season 8 rolls around in November of this year, you’ll have a whopping seventy-eight episodes to binge through.
