14. Sense8

If there’s one show out there that you could say has a religious following, it’s definitely the Netflix original Sense8. This is another series that doesn’t take to the stars or take us to distant planets, but it’s almost guaranteed to sit well with the kind of Star Wars fan who craves a new universe to lose themselves in.

This science-fiction series follows 8 strangers from around the world who are mysteriously connected to one another. We soon learn that this diverse group is called a “sensate” cluster (hence, the title of the show).

As would be expected in a show that comes to us from the iconic Wachowski Sisters (they are the writers and directors responsible for The Matrix), life was never going to be easy for the new cluster. They are being hunted and must come to each other’s aid if they hope to continue to survive.

This series has a bit of everything. It’s sci-fi. It’s a drama. It’s a mystery. Most notable to its fan base, it’s an incredibly inclusive project that features a ton of LGBTQ characters. While this fictitious version of the world is interesting on its own merits, Sense8 never gets lazy; it’s always action-packed and will keep you on your toes with an exciting story line. There is truly a little something for everyone here.

Unfortunately, the end of Sense8’s run has come and gone. The show was cancelled after its second season. On the bright side, this means that if you check out the show you’ll be able to start and finish its epic story fairly quickly, making it a relatively easy binge.
