12. Dark Matter

If you haven’t been watching some of Syfy’s popular shows, you’ve really been missing out. This network gave us underrated gems like The Magicians, Killjoys, Wynonna Earp, and, of course, Dark Matter.

This show should cut straight to the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere with its very first episode, when 6 people wake up on a spaceship with no memories of who they are. It doesn’t take long for this thrown-together crew to realize that the ship they’ve boarded is ferrying weapons. But what are the members’ relationships to one another? And why do they each have extensive knowledge about the ship and its inner-workings?

The series to follow consists of 3 great seasons of action and self-discovery. After all, when you don’t remember who you were, you have the chance to reinvent yourself in exciting new ways.

While I think that this series should generally appeal to all Star Wars fans, I think it will go over particularly well with fans of the newer films. It’s got a modern edge to it and three killer female protagonists to boot. If you dig Rey and Leia, this could be your next adventure fix.

Unfortunately, Syfy cancelled Dark Matter not that long ago. While I wish there was more show to enjoy here, the biggest perk is that the series makes for the perfect binge if you’re looking for a new show to start and finish but don’t have time for a heavy hitter with a thousand seasons. You can dive in and finish the series before the next Star Wars movie even hits theaters.
