8. Marvel’s The Defenders

These days it seems like there’s a new Star Wars movie constantly in theatres and playing alongside it is the latest MCU installment. Fans of one seem to generally enjoy the other. Maybe there’s something to be said about America’s craving some action, an other-wordly setting and a dashing young hero. I think it’s safe to say that if you like the new Star Wars stuff, you’ve probably seen your fair share of Marvel movies.

On Netflix, you can catch a lot of these new Marvel films as well as some truly great Marvel television shows. In 2015, the streaming service kicked off their Defenders crossover series with the release of Daredevil. While the Marvel movies always did well in theaters, I don’t think anyone really expected how explosively popular Daredevil would be for Netflix. The show is approaching its third season and still clocks in as one of the most consistently popular shows on the website.

While Daredevil is certainly my favorite lead-up to the Defenders series, all of the shows make for pretty addictive television. In total, the list includes Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Punisher (a companion piece to the others, as it features anti-hero Frank Castle). They each have distinct personalities, but all of the series share that same sense of adventure, high stakes and charming leading characters with Daredevil and Star Wars. If you have yet to tune into any of these shows, make sure to tackle them when you have plenty of time; they’re crazy addicting and there’s a ton of material to sort through.
