Ethan Hawke willing to play a Wookiee for Star Wars
Another high-profile actor has made it known he wants to be in the Star Wars franchise – and Ethan Hawke will play any role.
Add Ethan Hawke to the list of actors who want to be part of the Star Wars universe – and he will tell anyone who will listen.
Hawke recently appeared on Conan O’Brien’s show and brought up his love for Star Wars and how he has wanted to appear in the popular franchise for years. Hawke felt OK about not being in any of the movies for a time since none were made, but the last few years have been a bit rough – especially after he watched Solo: A Star Wars Story.
"‘”The last one was so good … the Han Solo one, I just loved … and there’s Woody Harrelson. He’s in Planet of the Apes. He’s in Star Wars. He’s got like every job,” Hawke said. “We’re the same kind of age. Can’t I get an audition? …“I think to myself when I go to see Han Solo, ‘I’m too old to play Han now, I’m going to enjoy watching this movie.’ Oh, Han’s got a buddy. Woody Harrelson. And I don’t get to go on.”"
Many actors have made their love of Star Wars widely known and have lobbied for a role. Recently, Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo professed his desire to appear in Star Wars while at Salt Lake City’s FanX. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, James Bond portrayer Daniel Craig played an unnamed storm trooper (later revealed as JB-007) fulfilling a dream of his to be in the franchise.
For Hawke, he’s willing to do anything. He doesn’t care what character or species, Hawke just wants in.
"“I’ve said it on national TV over and over again, Hawke said. “I will audition, I’ll play Wookiees, I’ll play Jedis, I’ll play bad guys.”"
Like Hawke said, this isn’t the first time he’s mentioned his desire to be in Star Wars. In 2014, when he made the rounds for Boyhood, he took his shot then too with his character in the movie even being a Star Wars fan.
"“What people didn’t know is, I was just actively campaigning to be in the new ‘Star Wars’ film, you know I thought if I talked about it passionately and showed my inner Jedi, … if I can let the LucasFilm, or J.J. Abrams, I knew that I would get to be on your show, and you would ask me about it, and then I could actively campaign for a role in the new SW right now.”"
There’s nothing yet for Hawke, but perhaps with a Rian Johnson trilogy coming down the line or Jon Favreau’s live-action television series, Hawke might eventually get his chance.
