Star Wars: 30 greatest moments not seen in the movies
30. Poe Dameron 14: Legend Lost, Part I
Let’s get the gut-wrenching one out of the way first. Poe Dameron 14: Legend Lost, Part I is one of those transcendent pieces of artwork that speaks volumes because of purely coincidental timing. Carrie Fisher passed away on Dec. 27, 2016, and Poe Dameron 14: Legend Lost, Part I was published May 3, 2017. Factor in time to write, illustrate, etc., however, and the genesis of this book began just after Fisher’s death.
As far as Star Wars deaths go, Fisher’s may have hit us the hardest. She was the female lead before female leads were en vogue. Strong, smart, crafty, and beautiful. Fisher had the entire package, and she’ll be emulated at every Comic-Con from here until X-wing starfighters become a reality.
The reason Poe Dameron 14: Legend Lost, Part I is so poignant for the Star Wars universe is the issue had to deal with death, mourning, and a funeral for L’ulo L’ampar. It perfectly echoed how all Star Wars fans were feeling at the time. Even more significant, Leia Organa delivers the most emotional portion of the speech, saying L’ulo fought for “all that is good and right in the galaxy.”
The same could be said of Fisher.
