23. Star Wars: Ewoks

Simply put, Star Wars: Ewoks is the cartoon that demonstrated there was a far too concentrated effort to indoctrinate kids into the ways of the Force. The Ewok cartoons were flawed for a variety of reasons and felt like a cheap money grab at times. The attempt to gain new fans was understandable, but the unfathomable two season run is just severely awkward in terms of how it fits with the rest of Star Wars canon.

Unfortunately for the cartoons, there are a ton of issues that make adult fans cringe. For starters, the Ewoks speak English. It’s an obvious requirement for a cartoon, but it’s awkward as can be. Considering the first visit to their planet should create communication issues, one would think a translator device would have made great sense. it’s just bizarre. The series feels like a cheap version of the Gummi Bears cartoon that aired nearly the same time.

Boundaries are set

Star Wars: Ewoks is important and great because it sets boundaries. Everything does not need to be monetized to the Nth degree. Awkward fart sound effects, wonky stories, and the minimization of adult themes into childlike concepts are unbecoming to such an epic franchise. Lesson learned. Mostly.
