Astronauts should get copies of Star Wars to watch in space

Almost a year ago, astronauts got the opportunity to watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi from a space station. The films should be available for every astronaut.

According to the article, Astronauts Just Watched ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ in Space! from Space.com NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei tweeted a group shot of several astronauts gathering around to watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi. His tweet read, “Space Station movie night, complete with “bungee cord chairs”, drink bags, and a science fiction flick!”

How many people can say that they saw a Star Wars film in space? What could be cooler than watching such a captivating science fiction movie while in the company of friends in the endless universe that the majority of the world will never experience?

This got my wheels turning and why not allow astronauts the privilege of watching any upcoming Star Wars films from space? In fact, why not provide any of the franchise films of their choice for their viewing pleasure?

While anyone can venture to the nearest movie theater to enjoy watching the next chapter unfold, astronauts have limited options.

Life in a space station is vastly different from any household on Earth. The work they do on a daily basis in nearly complete isolation should be accompanied with the familiar comfort of enjoying a movie. Though it’s a fictional franchise, it has opened the door of endless possibilities from creative and creepy planets to inventive and somewhat familiar languages and creatures.

Audiences have been transported from the world they live in and know to worlds beyond all imaginations. While astronauts have yet to record encounters with Ewoks or finding Tatooine they are still exploring the universe and studying to understand the greater mysteries of our own planet.
