Star Wars: Episode IX rumor: Matt Smith highlighted to play a Young Emperor Palpatine

Matt Smith is set to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX and it is rumored the Doctor Who star could take on the role of Young Emperor Palpatine.
The Doctor Who star has already been confirmed to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX. His role in the franchise has been shrouded by mystery but all bets are on now that Matt Smith will appear as a Young Emperor Palpatine.
This isn’t the first time that rumors about Palpatine featuring in the next installment of the Star Wars series. However, it is the first time Matt Smith has been highlighted as the one to play the iconic character. Just like everything else though, none of these reports have officially come from Star Wars so they should be taken with a pinch of salt.

During The Weekly Planet Podcast, James Olsen spoke about how Matt Smith could be appearing as Young Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: Episode IX. It was part of the “hot scoop or shot of poop” part of the show, which is a great name btw, who detailed that according to a source of his who is close to the production, claimed Matt Smith has been brought into Star Wars: Episode IX to play Young Emperor Palpatine.

Like I said at the start, Smith’s involvement in Star Wars: Episode IX has been known for some time. His role has also been labeled as a major part of the movie as well, so not a cameo appearance like some roles have been in the latest trilogy such as Daniel Craig playing a First Order Stormtrooper. So a major role such as a Young Emperor Palpatine is plausible.
If this rumor turns out right, it will be interesting to see how exactly the story plays this out. Will we be getting a flashback scene of some sorts? Or will Star Wars try something else?
