31. Ezra and Thrawn disappear (Star Wars Rebels)

The Star Wars Rebels finale was one to remember. Before we get to it, Kanan sacrifices himself and Ahsoka briefly reappears. Despite those big moments, there are still plenty of surprises left in the series finale and the main one is the fact that Ezra and Thrawn jump into hyperspace and they just disappear.

With the help of some purrgils, Ezra is able to get the rest of the team to safety. Thrawn gets a shot in that hits Ezra’s shoulder, but it isn’t enough to stop him. This is his way of making a sacrifice so that the rest of the team can continue on. Hera and Sabine tell him to get off of the ship, but he knows that he needs to see things through.

Ezra knows that he needs to finish what he started. That’s something that he learned from Kanan and while he doesn’t necessarily make the same kind of sacrifice, he makes one nonetheless. Plus, the Rebels finale left things somewhat open-ended. We have no clue what happened to him or Thrawn in the following moments or even years later as the show jumps to the future. Dave Filoni did do fans the favor of letting them know that Ezra and Thrawn both did survive, though. But that doesn’t mean a whole lot necessarily.
