30. Kanan going blind (Star Wars Rebels)
I won’t claim to know everything about every Jedi in the Star Wars universe, but I’m pretty sure it’s rare for one to be blind. After working together, Darth Maul turns on Kanan, calling Ezra his apprentice. His strike blinds Kanan and right away it’s clear that a strike like that won’t cause just temporary damage.
However, things could have been much worse for Kanan in that moment if Ahsoka wasn’t there with him. Darth Maul wants the temple, which is also an old battle station, to be activated again so he can get revenge on all of his enemies. He mostly wants revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi as we see throughout his appearances in Rebels.
After Kanan loses his sight, he grabs a mask and gets back up to finish the fight with Maul while Ahsoka finds Ezra. He uses a combination of the Force and his other senses (mostly hearing) to handily throw Maul off the edge. It happens a little too quickly for my liking, but Kanan has always been a strong Jedi, even when he didn’t think he was. This moment leads to some internal struggles with him and his ability to overcome them that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. It was a risky move, but one that paid off in the end.
