21. Luke finding Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru dead (Star Wars: A New Hope)

While Anakin went through tragedies of his own, the same happens to Luke. When he returns home in A New Hope, he finds that Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru have been burned. Although, Luke doesn’t have the sort of reaction to it that you think he would. He seems more concerned with how it happened rather than the fact that it did happen.

We know it was the Empire who did this, but because they made it look like the Sand People did it, it throws off Luke at first. However, Obi-Wan does catch on to the fact that it was just meant to look like the Sand People were the culprits. The first scene they come upon isn’t Luke’s home, though, but it leads him to head there.

Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are the only parents that Luke has ever had. Maybe by the end of A New Hope, he’s decided to accept that death is just going to be something that happens in abundance with the Empire around. After seeing the bodies, he heads back to Obi-Wan and wants to go with him since there’s nothing left there for him now. It’s like Luke processed their deaths within seconds and decided to just move on without grieving them. That might be the most shocking thing of all during this scene.
