50 most shocking moments in Star Wars history
47. Chewbacca eats porgs… almost (Star Wars: The Last Jedi)
When it comes to Chewbacca eating porgs, I think it’s important to set the scene in order to better understand why this happens. Chewie and Rey have arrived on Ahch-To at this point and the island is pretty bare as far as resources go. There’s just enough for Luke to get by, but Luke isn’t quite the size of Chewie and probably doesn’t need quite as much food to sustain himself.
It’s also worth noting that while Chewie has every intention of eating the porgs, we don’t actually see him go through with it. However, at this point, he’s already roasted them. So not eating them doesn’t exactly bring them back in any way, but it doesn’t weigh down on his conscience quite as much.
The best part about this scene, though? It’s easily the other porgs watching on and using their sad eyes to keep Chewie from eating their fellow porgs. I was a little surprised that Chewie didn’t choose to eat whatever it is that Luke survives on, but chose to go with the porgs. To be fair, they do look a little like chicken after he roasted them. Maybe they taste like chicken, too. However, we’ll never know since this is merely the time that Chewie almost ate a couple of porgs.
