43. Changing the scene where Han shot first

Much like Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, sometimes it’s moments that happen outside of the movie. The decision to change a scene is something that doesn’t really happen during the movie, so there are extra outside influences in this case. Many fans were not thrilled when the decision was made to change up the Han Solo vs. Greedo scene.

In the original take, Han shot first, but it was later changed to have Greedo shooting first. Clearly, they wanted us to think that Han was a good guy who never would have shot someone unless it was self-defense. However, as we know from watching Solo: A Star Wars Story, Han does, in fact, shoot first when he finds it necessary.

Maybe this didn’t seem like a big deal or a big decision at the time, but it does change the perception of that scene. Deep down most of us know that Han shot first and we just accept (or not) that this was a strange decision to make well after the fact. Does it really impact the movie all that much? Not to those of us who choose to ignore that this change even happened. That doesn’t make it any less odd or surprising that it did, though.
