Star Wars: Obi-Wan spin-off movie is apparently happening?

And the confusion continues. According to British Conservative Politician Boris Johnson, Star Wars Obi-Wan spin-off movie is apparently still going ahead.

I never imagined I would be writing about a British Politician and Star Wars at the same time, but here we are. Despite numerous reports that the Star Wars spin-off movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi would not be going ahead, at least not anytime soon, British Conservative Politician Boris Johnson appears to know something we don’t.

During a Democratic Unionist Party Conference, Conservative Politician Boris Johnson took to the stage to deliver a speech. Hitting out in particular at British Prime Minister, Theresa May, and her plan for Brexit and the impact it will have on Northern Ireland.

Staying away from the politics of Britain and Northern Ireland, their history with the rest of Ireland, and the ongoing Brexit negotiations. Because we would be here all day discussing it. We will jump straight to where Star Wars came into Boris Johnson’s speech.

Here is what Boris Johnson said:

"We have more Nobel prizes from one Cambridge college than from Russia and China combined. By far the most dynamic creative culture and media industries. Which was the biggest grossing movie last year? Star Wars and where does George Lucas propose to make a follow up about Obi-Wan Kenobi? Northern Ireland."

So it looks like, despite the reports that the Star Wars Obi-Wan spin-off movie wouldn’t be happening. Boris Johnson seems to be under the impression that it is. So is it?

More from Star Wars Films

Well, there is the film report from the Belfast Telegraph that suggests the Obi-Wan Kenobi film may still be in the works. And while the spin-off was shelved, it was not for definite. The decision might have been reversed by now but it hasn’t been made completely known to the world.

If it has, politicians would be some of the first to know. It seems weird to say something like that but film studios will reach out to councils to ask for permission, and advise about the use of the land during filming, in the planning stages. So it’s entirely possible that it could be happening.

But again. Nothing official has been announced. So keep an open mind. There is always the chance that Boris Johnson has got this one wrong. You will need to decide for yourself. Here is the rest of the speech in terms of the Star Wars references:

"But what is the name of the weapon wielded by Obi-Wan. The glowing throbbing rod with its enigmatic hum. A ligt sabre – and where did they make the first light sabre?"
