The master of maestros, John Williams, is composing a new theme for the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge theme park ensuring that his signature sound will usher in a new era of exploration

The music of John Williams is indelible. We know it instantly when we hear it, we know how it makes us feel, and we here at the Dork Side know that it means Star Wars. Certainly others are welcome into the musical landscape that maestro Williams created, we’ve even championed a few new voices, but Williams’ music –as Master Obi-Wan would say– surrounds us, and binds the galaxy together.

Apropos Obi-Wan and his description of the Force comes the news that Williams will be crafting a new theme to bind the Galaxy’s Edge together. The upcoming theme park attraction will welcome it’s guests to the soaring styling of Williams and we could not be more excited.

The news comes to us straight from the official website starwars.com so there’s no need to worry about the veracity of reports. It has long been rumored that upon completion of his scoring duties for Star Wars EP IX maestro Williams would retire from Star Wars. It’s heartening to know that though he may still follow through and retire from scoring the films, he’s not leaving us entirely.

Quite the contrary, in fact. Maestro Williams is bringing an entirely new and expansive musical universe to life. His theme, acting as if it were a sonic embodiment of the Force, is bringing life and adventure to where there was once none. And in what could perhaps be read as stretching the metaphor to its (ahem) edge, the theme is accompanied by footage of the literal creation of the park. Check it out for yourselves and see if it doesn’t strike a chord with you:

It’s no secret that Disney intends for Galaxy’s Edge to grow past the Star Wars films that bore it and evolve into a fully immersive experience for park goers for years to come. To have John Williams present and contributing to the inception of the park’s music is as much a masterstroke as it is an obvious choice.
