Abrams and Kennedy discuss filming Star Wars Episode IX in Jordan
Filming for the final entry of the Skywalker Saga is underway with news revealing scenes were shot in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan.
The exotic nation of Jordan will serve as a backdrop for Star Wars: Episode IX, news reports have confirmed. Director J.J. Abrams announced principle photography had taken place in the Wadi Rum and Shakriah Desert in Jordan.
Though we had leaks of the filming after a Redditor stumbled upon it recently.
It’s anybody’s guess whether the location shows up in the final film. Remember the characters go to and from planets, the Wadi Rum desert may double for any desert or savannah landscape.

He continued:
"“I feel extremely fortunate to have been able in Jordan. Between the warm welcome from the government and the dedication and hard work of the local film professionals, we couldn’t have had a better experience. We are enormously grateful.”"
Even Lucafilm president and the film’s producer, Kathleen Kennedy chimed in:
"“I also want to thank the Royal Film Commission Jordan, and the Army whose tremendous support has been invaluable, and helped make this shoot possible.”"
Roya News revealed filming became beneficial for the Jordan Film Incentive Programme. The Programme provided the Episode IX crew with 250 additional crew members. Every Jordanian worker involved with production provided work in every film department.
Even His Royal Highness Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein approved the move.
"“The unique timeless and diverse landscape of Jordan, along with its highly motivated production crews, makes it an ideal destination for filming. Having the latest episode of Star Wars shot here is a testament to that. As a lifelong fan, it is a great honor! May the Force be with you!”"
The ninth entry of the Star Wars Saga will see stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Billie Lourd and Kelly Marie Tran return. Franchise veterans Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams will all return. Unused footage from The Force Awakens will be inserted to include the late Carrie Fisher in her final outing as General Leia Organa.
Filming for the Episode IX started at Pinewood Studios in England in August 2018 while the film will be released internationally in December of 2019.
