Is the Star Wars Episode IX trailer going to release soon?

The final chapter in the Skywalker Saga is just over a year away, with rumors a trailer is coming soon for Star Wars: Episode IX. We speculate when we can expect to see it!

Star Wars: Episode IX is just over a year away and at the moment we know next to nothing about what to expect in the final chapter of the Skywalker saga other than a few leaks and rumors.

Sure, we know that most of the cast from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi will be back, but other than that, it’s radio silence. That may not be the case in the near future and we may have our first look incredibly soon.

There have been rumblings that the first trailer may come by the time we’re opening all our presents under the tree. With these rumblings we thought we would take a look and break down and speculate as to when we can expect the first trailer for Episode IX.

In a week that has been run a muck by rumors of new trailers for all of Marvel’s new films, Collider’s editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub sent a tweet that was, as Senator Sheev Palpative would say was ” A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.”.

To be fair to Weintraub, while he doesn’t say to expect a trailer, I think it’s safe to assume the first footage we will see will be from a small teaser. This may undoubtedly feel like it’s a bit too soon to even comprehend a trailer.

The last two Star Wars films that have had a December release didn’t release their first trailers until the middle of spring in either a Good Morning America special or at Star Wars Celebration. However I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to think we could get our first look at Episode IX this month and I trust and respect Weintraub a lot. In fact, I think it makes a lot of sense.

Let’s go back to the lead up to The Force Awakens, which was also directed by Episode IX director J.J. Abrams. Our first look at that film was a special preview at some theaters and released online for the world to see 385 days before the film came out. It was a short teaser, but it started the hype more than a year before The Force Awakens came out.

So let’s assume the trailer is coming this month. Is there a big, family friendly, Disney film that would be a perfect fit for a Star Wars trailer? Oh hi there Mary Poppins Returns! Y

ou look practically perfect in every way! If, and it’s a very big if, the first Episode IX teaser were to come out this month I think the week that Mary Poppins Returns comes out is your best bet to see anything. Let’s guess that the trailer drops on Tuesday December 18th, at noon eastern time.

If the first teaser doesn’t end up dropping this month I think there’s a very strong possibility that they follow a similar path that The Last Jedi followed. The title revealed in a post from the official Star Wars website in late January and then the first trailer revealed at a huge panel at Star Wars Celebration in April. If this is the case, I’ll guess that the title for Episode IX is revealed  on January 21st and then the first trailer comes out April 14th.

I definitely think the latter option is the most likely but after Weintraub’s tweet nothing would shock me anymore. Honestly I don’t think a lot of us are fully mentally prepared to see anything from IX yet, it just doesn’t feel real yet. We will know soon enough if we’ll have to wait a while for our first look.
