Star Wars: Compare and contrast: Phasma vs. Fett
He’s a clone in Mandalorian armor with a reputation of disintegrating his targets. She’s a Parnassian Chrometrooper with a penchant for survival. Neither actually do a lot, but both have a following. How do Boba Fett and Captain Phasma fare against each other one on one in Star Wars?
I will admit it right up front: I am not only a fan of Captain Phasma, I am a bit of a Stan for Captain Phasma (look it up, it’s a thing). I know the character doesn’t seem to live up to the hype when you see her briefly in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but I love her design, the sneer you can hear in Gwendoline Christie’s voice in every line, and the visual impact she makes in every scene.
She is not however the first time I’ve been a huge fan of a character whose legend is a little bigger than their reality. Like a lot of us in the 1980s, I was all about Boba Fett. The helmet, the jetpack, the fabled action figure with real firing missile that one kid at school claimed his cousin had actually gotten in the mail, and yeah he’d bring it to show you one day (he did not). Boba was the “coolest” for a long time in Star Wars.
But do either of them really get a whole lot done on screen? In what may be a bit of blasphemy to some Mandalorian adherents, let’s take a few moments to compare and contrast two beloved and underutilized characters from a galaxy far, far away.
I’ll be rating their first appearance, screen time, on-screen body count, their on-screen demise, and the characters’ legacy.
There are some rules here: I will be sticking to the films for primary numbers, but we’ll see where some Legends or EU material takes us too. Let’s start with how we met these two.
