The Mandalorian: Four old Star Wars characters who may appear
Jon Faverau has confirmed that characters from older films may make an appearance in the upcoming The Mandalorian television show. Here are other Star Wars characters who may appear.
For those who missed it, on Christmas Day a few weeks ago, Jon Favreau, the Executive Producer and writer for upcoming Star Wars television show, The Mandalorian, posted a picture on his personal Instagram page depicting an image of the bounty hunter IG-88, along with a caption stating “Merry Christmas”.
This post verified a lot of fan speculation that he, along with a few other potential characters, will make an appearance in the upcoming Disney+ live action Star Wars show. However, it is unknown if he will play a significant role or if this is just a small cameo.

In the Star Wars canon, IG-88 is a rogue assassin droid who later became a bounty hunter. His first appearance in film came in The Empire Strikes Back, where he, along with several other bounty hunters were summoned by Darth Vader and tasked with hunting down the Millennium Falcon. IG-88 only appeared in the one scene and has not been shown in any live-action film or show since.
Despite being a such a minor character in Star Wars lore, his inclusion has fans buzzing and hopeful that a few more familiar faces may pop up in the future once The Mandalorian is finally released.
The show is described by Favreau to be set “after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order” and that it will follow the travels of “a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
This this confirms that the show takes place after the Return of the Jedi, meaning that there is great potential for a few fan favorites to be included in the show.
