Lando Calrissian is set to return in Star Wars: Episode IX but don’t expect his role to be anything spectacular. He is expected to be another Maz Kanata.

We’ve got some fresh new Star Wars: Episode IX tidbits to share with you today but unfortunately its nothing spectacular. It’s downright disappointing actually. It looks as though the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian will not see him take on a pivotal role. It looks as though he is going to another Maz Kanta.

Now, we can’t validate the source of this information, but it has come from Making Star Wars. One of the few reliable sources for details about Star Wars during filming. So while you should take this with a pinch of salt, it is very likely to be true.

So, according to Making Star Wars, sources have explained Lando Calrissian doesn’t have a major role in Star Wars: Episode IX. He is expected to act as more of a Maz Kanta type character where he essentially points our main character in the direction of their goal.

Which, to me personally, is a huge letdown. I was imagining a huge scene with Lando and Chewie together, in the Millennium Falcon, blowing up First Order Tie Fighters or something like that. Maybe getting revenge for the death of Han.

I suppose, with him being older, the powers that be in the decision-making room of Star Wars, decided he should be more of a wise old scoundrel that gives guidance, rather than getting stuck into the fight.

That actually might work for you. And if it does, great. But it’s not going to work for everyone and that includes me.

Making Star Wars also had some information regarding Lando’s in Star Wars: Episode IX as well for those of you who find that interesting. He is expected to be wearing a yellow shirt, similar to the one he wore in Solo: A Star Wars Story. You can also expect him to have a fancy new blue cape and a gentleman’s cane as well.
