As much as C-3PO might argue with R2-D2 and find him to be a nuisance, the two make a great and unforgettable duo. This moment on the list is where C-3PO saves R2-D2 and maybe the galaxy. How does he do this?

After successfully escaping with Princess Leia’s message in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the two find themselves on Tatooine. They are captured by Jawa traders and as luck would have it, find themselves at Owen and Beru Lars moisture farm. C-3PO is sold almost immediately, as he understands the binary language of moisture vaporators.  However, R2-D2 is left behind when a second droid is chosen. When the second droid Owen purchases malfunctions, C-3PO recommends to Luke Skywalker into purchasing R2-D2 instead.

Owen agrees and R2-D2 is reunited with C-3PO. The two are cleaned up when Luke stumbles across part of Princess Leia’s message. R2-D2 does not show Luke the entire message however Obi-Wan Kenobi is residing on the planet under the name Old Ben Kenobi.

While C-3PO hesitated saving R2-D2 at first, the fact that he does so anyway is not only a kind act but a smart one. R2-D2 carried Princess Leia’s message for Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as the plans for the Death Star. If R2-D2 was left behind the plans may have never reached the Rebel Alliance. In which case the Death Star would not have been destroyed and the failure of the rebellion would be imminent. Which means that C-3PO’s decision to save R2-D2 was a pretty big moment for him.
