As we continue the countdown to Star Wars: Episode IX, this thought has cross minds — will it bring us a shocking death or two?
Star Wars: Episode IX has a lot at stake with good versus bad, light side against dark side. Given the weight of the story, it’s possible there will be unexpected deaths of beloved characters.
The first two movies of the sequel trilogy has given us some surprises. First with Han Solo in The Force Awakens and then Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi.

Deaths have always been a part of Star Wars films — although the main three were safe in the original trilogy. The deaths been on varying scales from Luke’s aunt and uncle to the Emperor. they were also all different means of death from murder to the sacrifice like Obi-Wan Kenobi.
To think that no character will die goes against Star Wars. There are many characters whose lives are on the line. Let’s take a look at characters who could be facing their demise.
Needless to say, he falls into the obvious category. As the “bad guy” of the movies, he seems to be a likely candidate. His death could come at the hands of Rey, Poe or Finn.
A great twist would be to have Kylo Ren sacrifice himself to save someone like Rey.
He falls in between obvious and not as much. While it is clear he does not get along with Kylo Ren he is a strong leader and a survivor. He made it this far under the watchful eye of Snoke and working his way through ranks of the First Order.
Rey seems like an obvious choice of someone who could die in Star Wars: Episode IX. It could be from losing a duel against Kylo Ren or she sacrifices herself to bring a balance to the force.
General Leia Organa
While Episode IX was supposed to be Leia’s movie — like Han Solo got TFA, and Luke got TLJ — we can’t help but think her character will meet her end especially given the passing of Carrie Fisher. She almost died in The Last Jedi, but in one of her most impressive uses of Force, Leia saved herself.
Also, considering how limited J.J. Abrams is with Leia footage, this could be one death that likely will happen.
Lando, Chewbacca or another classic character
For me this is not as obvious. Having seen the way fans reacted to Luke’s death Disney would need to think long and hard before going down the classic character death road again. Could it happen? Sure. But, I just do not see it going that way.
What are your thoughts on Episode IX? Which characters do you think won’t make it to the end?
