Star Wars rumor: Film trilogy by Benioff and Weiss to be set in the Old Republic

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are about to begin their Star Wars film trilogy rumored to be set in the Old Republic.

Come the end of the year, the Skywalker saga will have come to an end and a new Star Wars trilogies will be about to begin. One such trilogy will be created by Game of Thrones showrunners  David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and according to a very reliable source, it will be set during the Old Republic era.

This will be music to many fans ears as there has been a high demand for more Old Republic content, especially in the form of a TV show or movie. However, with this still being a rumor, you should take all of this with a big pinch of salt.

More from Star Wars News

As I said though, this comes from a very reliable source who has worked on every Star Wars movie since Disney acquired Lucasfilm. The source provided proof of their credentials to Star Wars News Net and spoke to them about the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss trilogy being set in the Old Republic.

They told them how the new trilogy would be aimed at appealing to an audience like Game of Thrones, something both Benioff and Weiss are clearly used to and very good at. The timeline is to be set hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga and supposedly filming will begin in the Fall of this year. Filming beginning in the Fall is of course possible with Game of Thrones about to air its final season in April.

All of this has yet to be officially confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm. Until it is we cannot take it as a guarantee. But I for one hope it is.
