8. Maz

After 1,000 years, Maz Kanata sure knows how to live a life. The character, which was introduced in The Force Awakens, is not one to be taken likely. Sure, she may be tiny, but she is fierce.

As witnessed in The Force Awakens, Maz can pack a lot of punch with just her personality. She can look deep into your soul, make you feel things you thought were long hidden, and then grab a drink in the next second.

She’s been a pirate, a smuggler and a tavern owner. Pretty much, Maz does what she wants.

The only problem is that we want more of Maz. She has such a rich history and background that it’s a shame we didn’t get more of her, but we can fill in the blank given what we do know about the alien.

Maz has lived her 1,000-plus years on her own terms. She doesn’t take no for an answer and disputes are handled with a blink and a blaster. Given her long length of life and her extensive networking, Maz is also a character who has a lot of connections.

This is seen in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi as the characters are stuck in the story. Maz is able to point them in the right direction.

Though she’s been a pirate and probably has done a few shady things in her life, inherently I feel Maz is a good person with a good heart. She leans toward the light side, helping the Resistance.

She’s seen the Empire. Maz has seen what true evil can and will do. Maz is a beacon in the dark, lighting the way for those in need. Hopefully, we get more of her in Star Wars: Episode IX.
