5. Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma was the perfect counter to Leia. Where the princess and general was on the grounds and getting her hands dirty, Mon Mothma was behind the scenes making things happen.

She was a leader in the revolution and the face of it when it came time to lead the New Republic. Hers was a thankless job too. While she fought for freedom of the Empire’s tyranny, Mon Mothma was tasked finding peace in a galaxy filled with war.

There could be a knock on her that she didn’t actually fight in any battles while she sent others to fight, but what always got me about Mon Mothma is how she carried the weight of those decisions.

She didn’t send people to fight lightly. Mon Mothma understood the costs of war, and fought tirelessly to bring peace. When the New Republic was formed, there were those who wanted her to stomp on the remnants of the Empire and seize control of the rest of the galaxy in the exact way Palpatine did but just under a different name.

Mon Mothma didn’t waver and resolved to bring peace. She was a skilled diplomat, finding compromise and not always making friends. But she did make allies and those who would fight with her because they knew she had a good heart.

She was calm in the face of danger, sturdy when others would have bent.

Mon Mothma was a strong influence on Leia’s life, making her all the stronger a political figure in her Leia’s later life.
