22. Beru Lars

Beru Lars didn’t have powers and she wasn’t Force Sensitive. She wasn’t a pilot and didn’t wield a lightsaber. While her presence in the Star Wars movies was limited, Beru is a woman who deserves so much credit.

She had dreams of owning a restaurant and then later having a child of her own with her husband Owen Lars. Instead, she married a moisture farmer on Tattoine and faced infertility problems.

However, a babe would land in her arms when Luke Skywalker was born and she and Owen were asked to care for him to keep him safe from his father, Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader). She did so and raised that boy as though he were her own.

She protected him, fought for her family and gave Luke a life that set him on the path of being the Jedi that brought balance to force. Beru always had her family’s best interest in mind and knew when a firm or soft was needed.

One of the best Beru stories is when her husband was abducted by a bounty hunter for failing to pay his water tax to Jabba the Hutt. Beru, armed with a rifle, rescued her husband, which was detailed in Star Wars 20: From the Journals of Old Ben Kenobi.

Although she died because of her connection to Luke, she gave him 19 years of a normal family life and a mother he never had.
