Throughout the Star Wars Saga, many main characters have sadly died in climactic fashion. Here’s a breakdown of characters likely to die in Star Wars Episode IX.
With the still untitled Star Wars Episode IX slated to be the final entry in the new trilogy of films and the end of the Skywalker Saga, is it very likely that some of the stars of the new films will not make it to the end.
Throughout the new trilogy, we have seen the death of many central characters, new and old alike. The galaxy’s most notorious smuggler Han Solo was killed by his son Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens to help and solidify him as the new villain of the films.

In one of the biggest swerves of the new trilogy, Kylo also killed his master, Supreme Leader Snoke in The Last Jedi, a move that seemingly came out of nowhere as Snoke had hardly done anything of note to that point in the trilogy.
Additionally, at the end of The Last Jedi, we also saw the apparent death of Luke Skywalker, after his body faded away into the force after he force projected himself to the Planet Crait to distract Kylo Ren and the First Order, and allow the remainder of the Rebellion to escape on the Millennium Falcon.
The death of Luke in particular was received poorly by fans, myself included, however, Luke Skywalker has been confirmed to be appear once more in Star Wars Episode IX, although in what capacity still remains unclear.
With all of that said, it is a clear theme among Star Wars films that central characters are usually killed in climactic scenes of all of the movies, as was the case in the original and prequel trilogies as well.
Fan favorites like Qui-Gon Jinn and Mace Windu were killed in the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi died early on in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and the original trilogy concluded with the death of Master Yoda, Boba Fett, Darth Vader and the Emperor all in the same movie.
It stands to reason that the final entry of the sequel trilogy should be no different and we will likely see the end of several key players in Star Wars Episode IX as well.
