Star Wars: Which characters should die in Episode IX?

Kylo Ren

As the film’s main antagonist, it would make sense that the climax of the film ends with his death at the hands of the movie’s protagonist.

As I stated previously, I believe that Episode IX should be built around the relationship or rather rivalry of Rey and Kylo, and should conclude with a climactic fight between the two in a battle of the last of the Jedi and the last of the Sith.

Since the theme of Star Wars is that in the end, good always triumphs over evil, then Rey would obviously be the victor at the end of the fight.

However, I believe that after killing his father Han, as well as his master Snoke, and causing Luke’s death, Kylo should be far passed the path of redemption, and should not be left alive at the film’s conclusion.

While he appears as a more sympathetic character after some of his past and his inner motivations were revealed in The Last Jedi, certain things can be done in Episode IX to reestablish his as an evil character and one who cannot be brought back to the light.

Going into Star Wars Episode IX, we know that Kylo will be the reigning Supreme Leader of the First Order, so he can be shown as a tyrannical leader, and one who has made life worse for those who are under the First Order’s rule, both ordinary citizens and his soldiers alike.

To further show his descend to the Dark Side, Kylo Ren can do something drastic such as abuse his followers in the Knights of Ren (who have yet to be used) or kill his second in command General Hux, or more impact-fully, a fan favorite like Finn, then it would put him on another level and someone who cannot be turned, leaving the only option left to take him down.

Rey versus Kylo to conclude the new trilogy sounds like a satisfactory way to conclude the new trilogy of films, but for it to reach its full potential, then Rey should kill him to conclude the movie and their story.
