The Turncoat

The animosity between Kylo Ren and General Hux has never been a secret, with the two debating over the efficiency of clone troopers versus loyal-from-birth soldiers in their very first scene together in The Force Awakens.

Since the death of Supreme Leader Snoke, Armitage Hux has plotted his course for promotion, and Hux saw his chance to assume control of the First Order in The Last Jedi, but that opportunity slipped away when it turned out Kylo Ren wasn’t dead. He follows Ren now only out of fear, and while Grand Moff Tarkin certainly felt that “fear will keep them in line,” we saw how well “in line” the Rebel Alliance fell after the destruction of Alderaan.

It’s only a matter of time before General Hux betrays Kylo Ren, and an unexpected turn to the Resistance might just be an amazing and unexpected story arc. With his elevated position in the First Order, Hux could potentially reveal any number of secrets to the Resistance, from Palpatine’s hand in creating the First Order up to and including knowledge of the Knights of Ren themselves.  This might even be the major push to action for Episode IX similar to the Bothan spies in Episode VI.

However, Hux is a loyal First Order man, having been raised from birth just like his stormtroopers.  He may not turn to the Resistance at all, his loyalty to the Order outweighing his contempt for Ren.

An interrogation may be in order for the General.
