Ewan McGregor: His top 10 movies of all-time
1. Trainspotting (1996)
The 1997-hit was such a tantalizing movie. Beyond the plot of Trainspotting, McGregor offered one of his greatest performances to date.
He played Renton, a man looking to get clean of his heroine habit. His life and all those around him are ravaged by the drug, leading to deaths and destruction. Renton does finally get clean, but his friends aren’t and pull him back in a crazy scheme that potentially leads to another bad turn in life.
This is easily McGregor’s best movie to date and Trainspotting is highly acclaimed throughout the film industry. McGregor plays the role of Renton dynamically having to go through a mixture of emotions from the need to get high, sadness, depression, withdrawal and eventually reconciliation.
The dark comedy role was what really gave McGregor a name in the acting world. While he had done a few television roles, it was just his fourth movie to date and brought him onto the scene in a big way.
It’s a fantastic movie that anyone should see at least once.
There didn’t need to be a re-make, but they did it anyway. And while that was a good movie, the original is far and away better than anything else.
McGregor currently has 83 acting credits to his name and this is still one of his most memorable roles.
