9. T2 Trainspotting (2017)

Trainspotting is a fantastic movie from 1996, which is undoubtedly on this list. The sequel takes place 20 years later featuring McGregor as Renton.

Renton is clean, having kicked his heroine addiction, but his life is spiraling out of control. He meets up with this friends again — Sick Boy and Spud — and it goes just as crazy and wild as you could imagine.

McGregor returning to the role as an older Renton was done marvelously well. He embodied what the character would be like 20 years later, trying to fix a life that went wrong and making amends with friends that he could have been better with.

McGregor seems to do well in reprising characters that he has played before. See: Star Wars with playing Kenobi three times.

But this time, it was a little tougher. With Kenobi, he played that character three times in a span of six years. He could gradually grow with the Star Wars character, understanding what Kenobi has gone through between each of the movies.

In this case, 20 years has past and McGregor has to fill in a lifetime of drama, up and downs, heartache and love. He did it well too.

T2 may not have been as good as the original movie, but it wasn’t far off either.
