7. The Ghost Writer (2010)
The premise of The Ghost Writer sounds like a typical thriller. A professional ghost writer is hired to write the autobiography of a former British Prime Minister. In the course of the project, he learns the previous ghost writer died under suspicious circumstances and there is much more to the PM than bargained for.
The movie was co-written and directed by Roman Polanski, and he wound up making a critically acclaimed film. McGregor had to portray a suspicious writer that was constantly being led in circles. He also discovered secrets left to him from the previous writer. Now his own life is in danger and needs to save himself.
McGregor is titular character and gives an amazing performance. Of all the accolades the movie received, his performance is up there as one of the best.
In fact, McGregor won Best European Actor at the European Film Awards for his performance and was nominated for two more awards.
The Ghost Writer — while not one of McGregor’s most popular films — is certainly one worth watching.
