The Rise of Skywalker: Lando Calrissian makes triumphant return

With the newly released Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer, fans were more than happy to see an old friend in Star Wars legend, Lando Calrissian.

“Lando never left me,” legendary Star Wars actor Billy Dee Williams said appearing before rabid fans at Star Wars Celebration. The relief of Star Wars fans around the globe could be felt and seeing Ladno pilot the Falcon in the Rise of Skywalker trailer was almost a water-shed moment.

It has been 36 years since we last saw a Williams grace the Star Wars big screen in Return of the Jedi. With J.J. Abrams’ trilogy, fans have already been treated to appearances from Star Wars icons Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, as well as lesser screen time for C-3PO and R2-D2. Lando now returning feels like the icing on the cake.

During the Episode IX (now Rise of Skywalker) panel, there appeared to be a promo picture which drew cheers from the Star Wars masses gathered in the conference center. Rumor has it that actress Naomi Ackie (who plays Jannah) is Lando’s daughter, though no one on the panel would answer the question. Ackie herself danced around the question by saying Lando is a known playboy and could have children across the galaxy.

When it came time for the teaser trailer to roll, fans wondered what it would bring. The answer was a lot of goodness. Punctuated, in my opinion,  with a quick shot of Land flying the Millennium Falcon and giving that glorious Lando laugh.

As quick as it appeared, it was awesome to see Calrissian piloting the ship that was his way back before Han Solo won it from him. It gives fans hope that J.J. Abrams is going to finish the trilogy in a pleasing way.
