Why is Star Wars fatigue an issue, but Marvel fatigue is not?

Characters

As previously mentioned, the addition of unique Marvel characters keep their universe fresh, but how many new Star Wars characters do we get to see in each film?

Sure, we get an all new trio to follow, and new side characters to back them up like Rose and Maz, but even the new trilogy relies solely on characters from the original. The Force Awakens was built around Han Solo, The Last Jedi was built around Luke Skywalker, and The Rise of Skywalker is likely going to be built around Emperor Palpatine. This doesn’t even highlight how important General Leia has been in the new movies!

But what about the value of the new characters we see? It is no secret that Rose Tico and DJ from The Last Jedi are loathed by fans, and that shows poor development of the side characters that are thrown into the additions to the universe.

Even though Pepper Potts and Sharon Carter are love interests in the MCU – who are notoriously underdeveloped – they both have experienced their own arcs. So how does this contribute to Star Wars fatigue? Well, if no one cares about the characters, then why would they care about the movies?
