Have you ever wondered what it would be like to a disciple of Darth Vader? Well, ILMxLAB has created a new VR experience that makes that dream a reality as revealed during SWCC’s Vader Immortal panel!

Darth Vader has become one of the world’s most beloved villains since his debut in 1977’s A New Hope. Now, he’s getting a VR experience where he’s the star… sort of. On Friday, Amy Ratcliffe hosted the Vader Immortal panel. She spoke to various members of the production team including David S. Goyer (Krypton, Man of Steel). They even showed a trailer from the game.

According to the official Star Wars website, there’s plenty of takeaways.

Familiar Voice Talent

If you are anything like us, you will recognize the regular voice talent from The Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance, and other media. Well, you’ll be surprised to learn that actress Maya Rudolph is making her Star Wars debut as the voice of droid ZOE3.

Steve Blum will return to voice Karius, an Imperial Admiral with cybernetics on the left side of his face and a right cybernetic arm. While Star Wars Resistance voice actor Scott Lawrenc voices Darth Vader. Judging by the trailer, he does a bloody good James Earl Jones impression.

Iconic Location

Nothing says iconic Star Wars locations better than Mustafar. ILMxLAB assures fans the full experience of Mustafar is guaranteed. What’s great about the game is you’ll have the ability to enter Vader’s castle. Yep, the same castle from Rogue One and the Darth Vader: Darth Lord of the Sith comics.

Game Takes Place After Secrets Of The Empire But Before Rogue One

If you’re familiar with the other Star Wars VR games, you’ll know about Secrets of the Empire. According to the production team, Vader Immortal begins days after Secrets of the Empire.

Because the game is canon, it will one up with the events of various Star Wars mediums that includes Rogue One. Vader Immortal takes place before Jyn Erso leads her group to prevent the Empire retrieving the Death Star plans. This also means that the game occurs after Revenge of the Sith.

Not A Film Experience

Colum Slevin says the player has a larger role to play via the headset the allows them to move around without restrictions. The game isn’t a film where you’re engrossed with limitations.

Mustafarians And Vader’s Secrets

As stated earlier, your character will follow Vader around, but there is more to it. Some of the Sith Lord’s secrets will become revealed to you.  You’ll even get to meet some Mustafarian folks! Though, I’m not sure we’d want to in an everyday scenario.

Goyer states that Vader’s castle isn’t just a base in the Empire. It is his home. Vader’s secrets are also the reason the player is chosen to follow the Sith. As you play, you learn more about the sorrow behind the man in the suit and helmet.

What To Expect From Episode I And Episode II

The game will be three episodes. The first one will have all kinds of lightsaber action. You’ll get to deflect blaster bolts back at your opponent. Goyer even joked that you sweat quickly.

The second episode will be all about Force abilities. This was not elaborated on further.

Conclusion

This game will be so intense for any Vader/Anakin fan.  Even if you’re just a fan of Star Wars and/or VR. Though, the team says you may need to read the Darth Lord of the Sith comics as there are hints to the story of Vader Immortal in the game.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series will be available as an Oculus Quest launch title, as well as on the Oculus Rift and Rift S.
