18. R2-D2 – Ohio
Ohio is notorious for being an industrial state. Manufacturing is a considerable portion of Ohio’s economy as they are the leading producers of metals, rubber, electrical equipment, and appliances. As an astromech droid, R2-D2 would never be out of work in a state like Ohio.
R2-D2 is one of the most popular characters within the franchise. In the prequel trilogy, R2-D2 served as an astromech droid that was sent to fix Padmé Amidala’s starship. He later met Anakin Skywalker and future life-long pal, C-3PO. R2-D2 accompanied Anakin and on various missions and continued to serve him after he turned to the dark side until he is later reunited with C-3PO.
In the original trilogy, R2-D2 contained the plans for the Death Star. After Owen purchased R2-D2 and C-3PO from Jawas, Luke found a piece of the message left through the droid about the plans and assisted in delivering R2-D2 to the Rebel Alliance. R2-D2 then began serving Luke and helped the rebel forces through his repairing skills and special tools. After Luke disappears, R2-D2 enters into low power mode, but later goes with Rey and Chewbacca to meet with his former Jedi friend. The droid is expected to return for Episode IX in some capacity.
