Matching 50 Star Wars characters with each of the 50 states

20. Rey – Texas
Even though the state of Texas is often associated with deserts, in reality, less than a tenth of their land is considered barren. Texas is nicknamed “The Lone Star State” and its motto is “friendship.” What a fitting way to describe Jakku native, Rey.
Rey is a scavenger, living alone on the desert planet of Jakku after she was left alone as a child. After she meets BB-8 and Finn, she leaves her old life behind and throws herself in the middle of the fight between the Resistance and the First Order. Rey is pulled by the Force, but she initially rejects it until coming face to face with Kylo Ren, who later offers to train her after the two have a lightsaber duel.
With Chewbacca and R2-D2 by her side, Rey travels to Ahch-To in the hopes that Luke Skywalker will train her. When that doesn’t work out, she leaves to find Kylo as she believes he still has some good in him. The two work together to kill Supreme Leader Snoke and Kylo asks that Rey join him in creating a new order. Rey refuses and goes back to her friends to assist the Resistance during the Battle of Crait. Rey’s journey will continue in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
