22. Darth Vader – New York
New York is commonly referred by its nickname, the “Empire State.” The name is believed to come from the state’s history of wealth and the abundance of resources. It only makes sense to match the state of New York with the Galactic Empire’s most popular character – Darth Vader.
Darth Vader was once a heroic Jedi for the Republic before joining the Empire as a Sith Lord. Before he was Darth Vader, the human was Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi with much potential. He was pulled to the dark side of the force where he served his evil Emperor. After vowing to take out the Rebel Alliance, Darth Vader eventually came face to face with his son Luke Skywalker.
Despite having all kinds of resources to his advantage, his supreme role within the Empire was not enough. After Luke failed to kill Vader, the Sith Lord repaid the favor when targeted by Palpatine. Darth Vader sacrificed himself to save his son. In the end, he made peace with his son and his legacy lived on. Darth Vader was viewed as an evil villain, but there was still good in him. Some of the rest of the world would say the same about New York’s sports teams.
