32. Jawas – Arizona
Even though Arizona has varying climates depending on the region, a lot of outsiders think of deserts when envisioning the state. Arizona is also the notable home of one of the Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon itself is actually a gorge of the Colorado River, but it serves as a beautiful destination for tourists. Jawas of Star Wars would also find the location very appealing.
Jawas are a small humanoid species from the rocky, desert planet Tatooine. They wore dark brown hooded robes and had glowing yellow eyes. Jawas were scavengers and often scoured the desert land of Tatooine looking for droids and scraps that could be sold to locals. Through their scavenging, they built up a trade business, but the group was known for swindling faulty parts.
Jawas would use Sandcrawlers to travel the desert and transport their findings. They also had a peaceful relationship with another group of Tatooine native, the Tusken Raiders. After C-3PO and R2-D2 crashed on the planet in A New Hope, Jawas sold the droids to Luke’s uncle. They might be small, but Jawas are tough, known to hide in the mountainous desert canyons searching for droids and vehicles to take apart for scrap.
