35. L3-37 – Alabama
The state of Alabama is deeply rooted in American history since the American Civil. In the 1950s and 60s, Alabama was a vital location during the civil rights movement. Alabama was the site of Montgomery Bus Boycott, Freedom Rides, and the Selma to Montgomery marches. The fight to end segregation lasted a very long time and many people dedicated their lives to the movement. L3-37 would have been proud of those who took part in the movement.
L3-37 was a self-made droid that accompanied Lando Calrissian during the rise of the Galactic Empire. She used pieces of other droids to reconstruct her body. The droid was highly intelligent as she programmed her brain using data from an espionage droid. She was also a great navigator which gave her a fitting job as Lando’s co-pilot.
L3-37 deeply cared about the rights of droids. During the mission alongside Han Solo and Tobias Beckett to steal coaxium, L3-37 freed several droids that were being used as slaves. The liberation excited L3-37, who then encouraged the droids to rebel against the slave masters. L3-37 led the liberated droids in helping Han’s team get back onto the Millennium Falcon. L3-37 fell victim during the attack, giving her life to the cause she so deeply fought for.
